Latex

I remember old times when windows had not yet been born (Ah, such a good memory!) and one could run a word processor under graphical MacOS. Since then many things have changed, yet you don't see the power that you see in a simple thing like Latex in any other software package.
One new aspect of Latex that I have recently discovered is the capability of producing some very high quality presentation slides. Perhaps the best part is that, you don't need to use the stupid MS Equation editor to type in your equations. Rather you can copy and paste equations from the Tex source of your papers and use them, right away. It will also create a beautiful index, and obviously you have access to many other useful things such as the bibliography.
You can try Beamer, but there are some other packages as well.
Only if they could add some keynote style effects, it would have been THE perfect solution for academic presentations and even more.
